Elias Dipasupil, Secretary-General, National Democratic Front of the Philippines

Defeating US imperialism together is true Filipino-American people’s friendship TRUE FILIPINO-AMERICAN PEOPLES’ FRIENDSHIP

It is anti-imperialist solidarity and revolution that forges true friendship between our peoples.

The National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) greets the people of the United States of America on their commemoration of their 250th Independence Day on July 4, of their freedom through revolution from imperial Britain as one of their greatest contributions to.

Since those heady days of unequalled patriotism two centuries and a half ago, however, the USA witnessed social injustices and upheavals that undermined the principles of Enlightenment their revolution was based upon. Its subsequent governments carried out genocidal campaign against the First Nations, went to war against itself on the issue of slavery, invaded a large part of its neighbor Mexico, and became an imperialist power with its colonization of the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and Guam.

As many as a million Filipinos were massacred when the imperialist US government stole our people’s hard-won independence from Spain at the turn of the last century through unspeakable atrocities such as the massacres of women, children, elderly and our own patriots. The North American invaders invented deadly firearms and torture techniques that were later perfected in future wars against other peoples and nations. American corporations plundered our forests and lands, impoverishing Filipinos . It hauled entire Filipino communities to be presented as “savages” of its newly-acquired territory at the St. Louis World Fair in 1904. It imported Filipinos to work as virtual slaves in pineapple farms in Hawaii or vineyards in California.

Despite the declaration of July 4 as “Philippine-American Friendship Day,” the imperialist US government and ruling elite are no friends of the Filipino people.

As the leading imperialist since the last century, the US government, its military industrial complex, its plundering transnational corporations, and its military have committed the same transgressions on other peoples of the world. There has never been a decade since the end of the Second World War that the US government has not invaded another country, particularly those who wish to earn their freedom from their colonizers as Americans did on July 4, 1776. A government that was established from liberation has become humanity´s most cruel oppressor.

US government’s invasions of other nations are made in the name of its people. Hoodwinked into believing they are exporting “freedom and democracy” to so-called oppressed countries, American youth become cannon fodder to their military industrial complex’s insatiable greed for blood and profit. America citizens who see beyond the charade are themselves subject to persecution or are outrightly killed.

The criminal Donald Trump regime is the apex of this barbarity. It has unleashed ICE on the American people while it bullies countries that assert their sovereignty, such as Venezuela and Cuba. And like previous US regimes who suffered ignominious defeats in Vietnam, Cuba and Afghanistan, Trump plunged the world into a crisis in his and Zionist Israel`s war against Iran this year.

In the Philippines, it continues to increase its military presence at astounding speed under the anti-China First-Island Chain perspective both in its unconcealed Enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) sites and in the secret military installations and missile batteries all over the islands, even brazenly using civilian facilities for military purposes. US war materiel and troops are spread over Philippine land and seas on the pretext of war exercises, disrupting people’s lives and livelihood, especially that of farmers and fisherfolk, and turning the whole country into a magnet for attack in the event of inter-imperialist war.

Its tramples on the country’s sovereignty by aggressively pushing for a 1,620-hectare “economic security zone” in New Clark City, in Pampanga and Tarlac, already regarding it as its territory under the environmentally destructive Pax Silica, a framework for unbridled plunder of mineral resources that will serve US imperialist military and technological needs.

US imperialism’s intensified drive to use the whole Philippines for war is focused not only on its rival China but on the Filipino people who resist this assault on the nation’s sovereignty. In close partnership with its present bosom buddy the Marcos regime, it trains and arms the fascist Philippine military to unleash the most brutal campaigns of militarization, psywar and terror against the New People’s Army and the revolutionary people’s organizations who remain as the most resolute obstacle to its total hegemony.

Because the Filipino people, like the rest of the world, have learned how to fight back and defeat US imperialist aggression and the repression foisted on them by their own ruling classes.

Here in the Philippines and among the Filipino diaspora abroad, the people are militating against increased US military presence. The people’s democratic and patriotic movement continues to swell while the armed revolution regains lost ground as we advance the rectification movement in the face of extreme challenges foisted by US imperialist-directed counterrevolution. We continue to fight for genuine freedom from US imperialism as our national democratic revolution marches forward towards its inevitable achievement.

The NDFP enjoins the American people, whose rights and liberties are being eroded and who, like us, suffer intensified injustices, to unite with Filipinos in resisting US government’s crimes against both our peoples. We remain respectful of the ideals of their revolution 250 years ago and we urge them to advance solidarity with our revolution for freedom and sovereignty. In this, we shall share genuine people-to-people friendship that imperialism’s bloodied hands can never hope to prevent and defeat.###
